Calling All Senior Basketball Players
The South Shore Basketball Club invites all Seniors ages 50 and up to come out and play basketball at the Ruskin Recreation Center on SE 6th street on Mondays and Fridays from 9:30 to 11:30.
The club's goal is to have two half-court games being played at the same time. One court has newcomers matched with other newcomers in a pickup style game. The second court will be our more active senior players. As seniors regain lost conditioning they may choose to stay with those players or move up to the other court which has better conditioned players. Players range in age from 50-90 with most players in between. This is a modern air conditioned facility.
The last five years we have been playing under the name of the Sun City Center Basketball Club, which has now changed its name to The South Shore Basketball Club, aka "Hot Shots" to represent its current members from Sun City Center, Kings Point, Ruskin, Apollo Beach, Riverview and Valencia lakes to name a few. Club membership is free. However, Hillsborough County has now instituted a monthly charge to use the facilities at $10.75. About Us
The South Shore Basketball Club was established in 2016 for senior players aged 50 and above. We typically play twice a week, and players of all ability levels are welcomed. Although the main focus is on having fun and friendship, the club does participate in 3-on-3 competitions in local senior tournaments in order to qualify and participate in the Florida State Senior Games championships each year.
No worries if you haven't played in a while. Our players are aged 50 to 90+. In order to get our players back into playing shape on a gradual basis, we have two half court games going on at the same time. Players will have someone matched with them of equal ability and conditioning. We call frequent time outs, and most games are four-on-four up to a score of 11. Teams change after every game.

The Club Became State of Florida Champions for Seniors age 50-80 years old in different divisions in 2024.
Our Home Court
The team plays at the Ruskin Recreation Center at 901 6th St. S.E.. The facility is indoors, air conditioned and has a wood basketball floor which makes it an ideal place to play. The county charges $10.75 per month to play on the court. You pick the months you want to play and only pay for those months. Included in the fee is the use of pickleball courts, volleyball and the fitness center.
